SUSTAINABLE ART, IMPACTFUL COMMUNITY.

A TRUE ORIGINAL

Binding generations together more than any other animated character, Mickey Mouse is the “True Original”, a character who reminds people of all ages of the benefits of laughter, optimism, and hope. With his universal appeal and ability to emotionally connect with generations all over the world, no other character quite occupies a similar space in the hearts and minds of a global fan base.

As 2018 marks 90 years since his first theatrical appearance in Steamboat Willie on November 18, 1928, a series of worldwide celebrations will be taking place this year, including a primetime television special to air on ABC, the World’s Biggest Mouse Party hosted at Disney Parks around the world, an artist exhibit in New York City and a design competition in partnership with OCAD University in Toronto, Canada.

COMPETITION

The competition invites other true original artists to collaborate and bring to life a Mickey Mouse statue of their own. In collaboration with OCAD University, Toronto’s distinguished and leading arts university; students are invited to submit a ‘true original’ proposal to design a blank Mickey Mouse statue in honour of this celebration, with the chance of having their design exhibited across Canada, along with a trip to the True Original Exhibit in New York City.

A fantastic opportunity for emerging artists to have their work shown nationally, Disney is offering a once in a lifetime opportunity for OCAD students and graduates to participate in this monumental celebration of a pop culture icon, leaving behind a lasting artistic interpretation of a character who has inspired and resonated with millions. For more details on the design competition, complete rules and regulations, please email Disney@outfrontmedia.ca — competition deadline is October 5.
